U14 Girls are GOLDEN!!!

SWSC would like to congratulate the GU14 team, coached by Jenny Lawlor, for their Coast Soccer League success! They have demonstrated the comeback of the year, becoming the League champs of Silver Elite East, which guarantees them a GOLD spot next season! The GU14 team started off in SWSC as a first year GU11 Bronze team. They struggled their first season, but battled back as U12s. They moved up to Silver as U13s and won the league. This season, they played Silver Elite in one of the toughest Silver Elite brackets around. They started off the season 0-2, losing to Claremont Stars and Arsenal FC. This team was relentless to get what they deserved. They went on to play the next 11 games and remained undefeated. They moved from last place all the way to the top. They were holding the first place spot on their own. Then they learned that nothing worth GOLD comes easy. They lost to OJSC 2-0 with just two games left in league, which put them in a tie for second. These girls kept their sights high and knew what they had to do. The finished their Silver Elite season by beating Desert United 2-0, which put them in a tie for first. On Sunday, they faced Upland Spirit, the 2004 State Cup Champions - the SWSC top rival. The girls stayed focused and worked extremely hard to get their result, defeating Upland 1-0 in their final game. In the meantime, the other two threats for the title tied, which gave SWSC the Silver Elite Champions title all to themselves. We are so proud of you girls! Best of luck in League Cup! The girls will play in a rematch against OJSC this weekend in the Round of 32 @ 9:30 at the Polo Fields.
